Court declares transfer of Oranta trademark rights to IMG Holding illegal

The Kyiv Economic Court on November 4, 2015 ruled to invalidate the agreements on the transfer of rights to the trademarks of Oranta insurance company, which were signed between Oranta and IMG International Holding Company (IMG Holding, Ukraine).

"The fact of returning the rights to use the trademarks to the insurer will have a positive impact on the company's capitalization and the improvement of its business reputation in the insurance market," Oranta said in a statement on its website.

As reported, according to the database of trademarks for goods and services registered in Ukraine by Ukrainian Institute of Industrial Property, the Oranta trademark, as well as the slogan "Oranta takes care of Ukraine" were registered by IMG International Holding Company in October 2008.

In addition, IMG International Holding Company in October 2009 registered the trademarks Oranta Zhizn, Oranta Zhyttia and Oranta Life on a white and blue background.

As mentioned in the notes to the financial statements of Oranta for 2013, prepared in accordance with international standards and published in the information disclosure system of the National Commission on Securities and the Stock Market, over the reported year the company paid UAH 52.384 million for the rent of the brand.
