Ukraine returns another 45 Ukrainians from temporarily occupied territory, Russia
Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets reported that Ukraine has returned another 45 citizens from the temporarily occupied territory and the Russian Federation, the oldest of whom is 93 years old.
"Thanks to the coordinated work of the Office of the Ombudsman of Ukraine, state bodies, humanitarian organizations and international partners, we managed to ensure the safe return of 45 citizens of Ukraine from the temporarily occupied territory, as well as from the territories of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus," he wrote on Telegram.
Lubinets noted that among the evacuees there are people who needed special conditions for safe movement. In particular, people with limited mobility and seriously ill citizens who were not physically able to leave the occupied territories on their own.
According to him, 10 citizens needed urgent treatment, had serious chronic diseases. Also, evacuation was organized for 23 people with the involvement of specialized transport and medical support.
"For many of them, this was the only opportunity to escape the danger associated with the restriction of rights, insufficient access to medical care, pressure and risk to life from the occupation administrations," the ombudsman emphasized.
According to Lubinets, the vast majority of those returned are elderly people. The oldest citizen is 93 years old. In addition, Ukrainians who needed legal support and accompaniment were returned, as they lost their personal documents and were unable to cross the border on their own.
"I note that some of the Ukrainians who are already in the territory controlled by Ukraine were persecuted by the occupation administrations. In particular, the family whose father was kidnapped by the occupiers and tortured, as a result of which he died," the ombudsman emphasized.
Lubinets added that leaving the occupied territories is salvation from systemic pressure, threats to the life and health of civilians.
