Today 100,000 people remain in Mariupol in inhuman conditions – Zelensky
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has said that as of today, 100,000 people remain in Mariupol in inhuman conditions.
"As of today, about 100,000 people live in the city in inhuman conditions, in complete blockade, without food, without water, without medicines and under constant shelling, bombardment. For more than a week now, we have been trying to organize stable humanitarian corridors for Mariupol residents. And almost all of our attempts, unfortunately, are frustrated by Russian occupiers, shelling or deliberate terror," Zelensky said in a video message on Wednesday night.
Speaking about the capture of the Ukrainian humanitarian convoy on March 22 near Manhush, which was heading to Mariupol, by the occupying forces the president said that "everything is being done now to free people and unblock the movement of humanitarian cargo."
He also thanked Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, who expressed his intention to personally accompany the humanitarian mission to Mariupol.
"I am grateful to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, who was the first among European officials who decided to support the work of our humanitarian corridors to Mariupol in order to save our people and deliver humanitarian cargo there... We are waiting for the intention of the head of the Greek Foreign Ministry to be realized in the coming days," Zelensky said.
