UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths said that the world organization has sent a group of experts to Moscow for a meeting at the Russian Defense Ministry on the issues of corridors in Ukraine for the population to leave and the supply of humanitarian aid there.

The official told reporters that he would work with the Russian military "to improve civilian-military coordination" to be able to scale up UN humanitarian operations. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday.

According to media reports, Griffiths called on all parties to ensure the protection of the population in general, civilian homes and infrastructure during the fighting in Ukraine.

According to the deputy secretary general, the UN also urgently needs a system of "permanent communication" with all parties, as well as "guarantees to deliver humanitarian assistance."
