OSCE, Council of Europe offices in Ukraine unite to promote democracy, rule of law
The offices of the Organization for Security and Cooperation (OSCE) in Europe and European Council in Ukraine have signed a letter to cooperate in advancing democracy, rule of law and human rights in Ukraine.
"We signed the letter on cooperation, which talks about various spheres. We have a long history working with the OSCE. The spheres of cooperation involve human rights, democracy and rule of law. We are working to reform the judicial system, reform the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO), on elections and with civil organizations," Council of Europe Office head Marten Ehnberg said on Monday during a briefing in Kyiv.
According to Ehnberg, the OSCE and Council of Europe are working together in Ukraine to implement projects to support local communities, judicial reform protect free speech, etc.
OSCE Project Coordinator in Ukraine Ambassador Vaidotas Verba said the document shows synergy between the two organizations in their work to promote rule of law, democracy and human rights.
"We think our efforts complement each other. Sometimes we do the same things. This form of cooperation will allow us to jointly plan, carry out and monitor various initiatives in Ukraine," he said.
