Saakashvili got documents stripping him of citizenship on Oct 2

The Presidential Administration of Ukraine has denied a statement by leader of the Movement of New Forces party, former Odesa regional governor and former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili that he has received documents stripping him of Ukrainian citizenship only recently and said that the politician got them on October 2.

"Saakashvili filed an inquiry to the Presidential Administration of Ukraine on September 19, 2017, the answer to which was sent on September 29, 2017 by registered mail with notification (departure number: 0100154008076). The said message, according to Ukrposhta's notice, was handed on October 2, 2017. Thus, reports spread by Saakashvili in the media today does not correspond to reality," the administration's press service reported on October 25, in response to an inquiry from Interfax-Ukraine.

As reported, Saakashvili said that he had received documents from the Presidential Administration on depriving him of his Ukrainian citizenship and that he planned to appeal this in court.

"I am going to court today or tomorrow. At last we have received documents on citizenship from the presidential administration and we will appeal against the deprivation of my citizenship," he said outside the building of the State Migration Service of Ukraine in Kyiv on October 25.
