Education Ministry instructs university teachers, colleges to strengthen popularization of Ukrainian language

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has instructed teachers and teachers of higher educational institutions to intensify efforts on promoting the Ukrainian language.
"In order to expand the scope of the state language in the sphere of education and other spheres of public life, it is recommended to intensify work on promoting the Ukrainian language in the pupils’, students’ and teaching environment, involving children and young people to participate in a variety of educational, cultural and educational activities," the letter of the Education Ministry says addressed to the regional departments of education and educational institutions.
It is also recommended for educational institutions to ensure the level increase of command of the state language among research, teaching and academic employees.
The ministry’s letter says that there are cases of incomplete law implementation on the state language in educational establishments.
The Education Ministry says teachers and other staff members at schools with Ukrainian as language of instruction must use the official language during teachers’ working time. At schools, where teaching is provided in the language of national minorities, the Ukrainian language is used together with the language of instruction.
