Turchynov hopes financing of border guard to improve due to seized assets of ex-officials

National Security and Defense Council Secretary of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov admitted a today's problem with financing of State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, and suggested a way-out due to seizure of arrested assets of the ex-Ukrainian officials.

In an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine, he reminded how spontaneously a national budget for 2016 was passed and as a result border guard structures get less than they were due to unlike the rest of the enforcement agencies.

Thus, Turchynov reported that today there are discussions over the use of financial reserves, which are blocked now. "If I'm not mistaken, a law on special seizure of huge money funds, stolen by ex-president Viktor Yanukovych and other ex-officials from his circles was put for voting at the parliament seven or eight times. This money (nearly $1.5 billion) has already been seized and its number would be enough to raise salaries and to produce modern weapons," the secretary said.

Besides, he said that a part of these means would be meant for increasing pensions and budget salaries.
