Ukraine has enough of gas to survive this winter - Yatseniuk

Ukraine's Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has said that his country has enough of natural gas to get through the current winter heating season.

"We have gas. Around 14 billion cubic meters of gas have been accumulated, which is 2.3 billion more than last year," he said on the "Ten Minutes with the Prime Minister" program on the Ukrainian television Channel 5.

Ukraine does not buy natural gas from Russia because of its high price; it buys gas from the European Union countries where its price is lower, Yatseniuk said.

"On January 1 they [Russia] issued an invoice with the gas price at $212 per 1,000 cubic meters. We don't buy gas in Russia, because we buy gas in the European Union cheaper than what Russia offered us. The average cost of acquiring gas in the European Union is around $200," Yatseniuk said.
