Poroshenko signs law on science, scientific activities

President of Ukraine has informed scientists, professor's staff and parliamentarians during the meeting on his decision to sign a law "On science and scientific activities".
"The president said the adoption of this law was an example of consolidation in society," the president's press service quotes him as saying.
Besides, Poroshenko noted joint responsibility of scientists for the implementation of the law and assured the attendees of his active participation in that process.
"I count on you. We should use the potential of our future Nobel laureates. We must create laboratories and create conditions for the protection of their intellectual property. We should elaborate legislation," the president said.
"We will create new conditions for young scientists, but they will be based on a competitive basis. You will compete for grants," the head of state noted.
The head of state has added that the law opens unique opportunities for true scientists, who want to transform Ukraine into a modern European state.
According to him, one should get rid of the Soviet-era stereotypes in perceiving science making a stress on competitiveness in this sphere.
"We'll set up better conditions for young scientists. You will compete for the grants, for funds of the defense and industrial sector, state defense order. You'll compete to raise funds for energy efficiency," the president stressed.
