Poland ready to share reform-related experience with Ukraine – Duda tells Groysman

Chairman of Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman and Polish President Andrzej Duda met in Kyiv on Tuesday to discuss prospects for further development of bilateral relations and importance of conducting reforms.

"This visit will give an impetus to the development of our relations, and we will be able to further deepen a parliamentary component of our bilateral relations," the press service of the Verkhovna Rada's administration quoted Groysman as saying after the meeting.

Duda in turn stressed that Poland supports reforms in Ukraine, in particular, judiciary reform and decentralization.

"We're ready to share our experience – both positive and negative one – in [introducing] those changes," he said.

The Polish president said he was aware of complexity and specifics of Ukrainian reform. "Such reforms are often met with resistance, and we are ready to provide support to support Ukraine in the broader context and share experience in many aspects," he said.

The parties stressed the need to create a platform for a high-quality dialogue, including on issues of culture, science and complex issues of the past. In this context, Groysman noted that solving "sensitive issues is possible through dialogue," and assured that he would personally contribute to the creation of conditions for such a dialogue.

"We have formed a package of bills to combat corruption, solved the problem with the launch of a large-scale decentralization and adopted a new law on public service, taking the first steps to strip the authorities of oligarchs. We are on the verge of adopting laws to reform the judicial system, introduce related amendments to the Constitution," he added.

Groysman and Duda also expressed hope that the Ukrainian and Polish parliaments would become good partners in the development of bilateral relations between the two countries.
