Poroshenko enacts NSDC resolution on UAH 100 bln of funding for defense sector in 2016

Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko has signed a decree enacting a resolution of the National Security and Defense Council on the defense budget for 2016.
"The NSDC of Ukraine has proposed the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine should envisage in the bill on the state budget for 2016 the spending on the national security and defense of Ukraine in the amount of 5% of the GDP, and the funding of this sector in the amount of no less than UAH 100 billion from the general fund of the state budget," the press service of the Ukrainian president said.
In addition, the state budget should envisage the funds for the development of weapons, military and special equipment for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine taking into account the standards of NATO member states.
The priority areas of funding in 2016 have been also outlined in the document.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry together with the Defense Ministry, the Interior Ministry and the Security Service of Ukraine are ordered to speed up the work on the use of the resources of NATO trust funds and of other international technical and humanitarian assistance in 2016 with a view to strengthening the defense potential of Ukraine.
