Savchenko may be sentenced to 25 years in prison – Investigative Committee

Ukrainian servicewoman Nadia Savchenko, who is charged in the killing of Russian journalists in southeastern Ukraine, is facing 25 years in prison, Investigative Committee official Vladimir Markin said.
"Bearing in mind the collected evidence, the investigators reclassified the actions by the accused and she will now be held responsible as a co-perpetrator of the killing of two or more persons using a method posing danger to the public based on hatred to a social group committed by a group of persons by previous concert, not as an accessory," Markin told Interfax on Monday.
Markin also said Savchenko is charged with the attempted killing of civilians who could have been hurt in the shelling navigated by her.
"This article carries a punishment as long as life in prison. However, women are not given life sentences according to the Russian Criminal Code. Thus, the maximal prison term Savchenko is facing is 25 years," Markin said.
The Russian Prosecutor General's Office earlier said that an indictment had been approved and that the Savchenko case had been sent to the Donetsk City Court of the Rostov region.
