Two smoldering peat bog fires have been confined and are being extinguished in the Chornobyl Puscha forest area, the State Emergency Situations Service of Ukraine said on Wednesday morning.

"As of 8 a.m. on July 8, smoldering peat bog fires were being extinguished in two confined areas within the exclusion zone, across a total of 5.2 hectares in the villages of Kovshylivka and Hlynka," the report said.

Ninety firemen, 15 fire engines and nine engine-driven pumps are extinguishing the fires.

The fire in the Chornobyl Puscha forest area began on June 29: dry grass and bulrush caught fire. At first fire spots spread across on a total area of 130 hectares.
