New Ukrainian ambassador to U.S. will be well-known person - foreign minister

A new Ukrainian ambassador to the United States will be a person well known in Ukraine, says Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin.

"The U.S. is certainly a special country. It is within the president's purview to appoint a new ambassador. But this ambassador will be well-known to all of Ukraine, and I believe this will be the best choice for Washington and for our mission to the U.S.," Klimkin said on Channel Five television on Tuesday when asked who would be appointed new Ukrainian ambassador to the U.S.

Ukraine's ambassadors who have been appointed of late are, as a rule, young people by diplomatic standards, who can consistently and firmly promote Ukraine's politics, that is, they "are capable of showing the world a new Ukraine and are capable of explaining to the world how Ukraine can and should be helped," he said.

Ukrainian ambassadors to some countries have not yet been appointed, Klimkin said. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is undergoing a reform, which involves the establishment of so-called network embassies, or regional hubs, Klimkin said. "This has already justified itself in some situations, for instance, in Northern Africa and Southeast Asia, and this mechanism will continue to be implemented," he said.

It was reported earlier that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko had dismissed Oleksandr Motsyk as Ukraine's ambassador to the U.S.
