Ukrainian NSDC secretary arrives in military area in Donbas
Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov has arrived in the military operation area in the eastern part of the country to inspect the fulfillment of the missions assigned to the troops.
"The main objective of the trip is to inspect the implementation of the antiterrorist measures," Turchynov's press secretary Hanna Vakhotska told Interfax on Saturday.
Turchynov will also check the armed forces' and the National Guard's readiness to oppose the militia's activities in the military operation area.
"Special significance will be attached to the introduction of strict control over the movements of people and cargo within the antiterrorist operation area," Vakhotska said.
Turchynov was appointed National Security and Defense Council secretary in mid-December 2014. Several days later, the Verkhovna Rada passed legislation expanding the Security Council's powers and its secretary's functions, and President Petro Poroshenko signed it into law.
