Biden tells Turchynov US supports changes in Ukraine

The United States welcomes the recent changes in Ukraine, U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden has told Verkhovna Rada Chairman and Acting President Oleksandr Turchynov, the press service of the Ukrainian parliament has reported.

The sides discussed this issue at a meeting on Tuesday.

"Biden said that the U.S. welcomes and supports the changes in Ukraine and is ready to provide full support along this way," reads the report.

The sides also discussed Ukraine's domestic and foreign policy. Turchynov said that the country was currently restoring and reforming the entire vertical of executive power.

"We are planning to gradually upgrade the entire system of government institutions and relations between citizens and the state," Turchynov said, adding that particular attention is paid to decentralization of power and providing the regions with greater independence and opportunities to independently appoint their leaders and manage the budget.

Speaking about the situation with external aggression, Turchynov said that most Ukrainians were in favor of a single and indivisible Ukraine.

"The Ukrainians are ready to defend their country against Russian military aggression," he added.

He also noted that "unfortunately, neither Russia nor its terrorist special forces operating in Ukraine, defiantly, are going to carry out the agreements reached in Geneva."

Russia has officially stated that there are no Russian troops on Ukrainian territory.
