UN chief calls for preservation of Ukraine's unity

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has said that it is vitally important to preserve Ukraine as a single state, his spokesperson, Martin Nesirky, has said.
"The Secretary-General, above all, calls for an inclusive political process that reflects the aspirations of all Ukrainians and preserves Ukraine's unity and territorial integrity," Nesirky said on Monday.
He said that Ban had reiterated his call for non-violence and urged all Ukrainians "to uphold the key principles of democracy and human rights and thereby create a conducive environment for free and fair elections."
Earlier, UN Special Representative Robert Serry arrived in Kyiv where he met with Verkhovna Rada Chairman Oleksandr Turchynov.
In particular, Serry said that the international community was ready provide effective and real assistance to Ukraine.
