The situation in the center of Kyiv, where a standoff continues between Ukrainian riot police and protesters, is currently quiet.

There were no incidents and no flare-up in the confrontation between the sides last night, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent said.

Several dozen activists from the so-called Maidan self-defense force are standing near the barricades on Hrushevskoho Street. They are obstructing access to the frontline of the barricades.

Lines of riot police remain deployed in front of the barricades. Internal Troops soldiers and policemen are keeping warm near fires set up in Mariyinsky Park.

The situation is currently calm in Kyiv's Independence Square. A small number of protesters are standing near the stage installed at the site. Other protesters are apparently still sleeping in tents or other buildings seized by demonstrators. Some of them are having breakfast or cooking their meal.

Men from the Maidan self-defense force are guarding the perimeter of the square.
