Kyiv's Euromaidan is protected by 4,000 people, Andriy Levus, the head of the Maidan's commandant's headquarters, said.

"Self-defense units currently have 4,000 members," he told a briefing in the press center of the national resistance headquarters in Kyiv on Friday.

All people who want to can join these units, he said.

"Tomorrow we are training self-defense units. The people will be taught about security, first aid, and how to hold barricades," Levus said.

Levus said this will make the people's militia regular units, adding that a press protection service will be presented in the nearest future.

"Every journalist can call our hotline and we will give them 5-10 guys who will protect the journalists in the event of active actions," he said.

The self-defense commandant's headquarters is located in the Architects' House, Levus said.

"We moved in there yesterday. We settled peacefully and we have a lease contract," he said.

Commandant units will be created on Kyiv's Maidan, Levus said.

"We are now deploying commandant units on the Maidan. The number of unauthorized tents will be reduced," he said.
