European Commission not discussing possibility of introducing sanctions against Ukrainian officials
The European Commission is not considering the possibility of introducing sanctions against Ukrainian officials.
This follows the statement of EU High Representative Catherine Ashton's representative Maja Kocijancic when asked by reporters in Brussels on Thursday whether the EU supported the stance of the United States on the possible introduction of sanctions against Ukrainian officials.
The European Commission supports dialog and this is the message Ashton delivered clearly twice to Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych in Kyiv, Kocijancic said.
When asked a clarification question on whether the European Commission shared the stance of the U.S., the spokesperson said that the European Commission would continue to act according to its stance. The European Commission should continue working with Ukraine in order to help finding a political solution, she said.
