Boryspil airport starts building a multi-level parking area near terminal D

2 min read

Boryspil International Airport (Kyiv) in early July 2013 started works on the construction of a multi-level parking area opposite terminal D, the airport's press service has reported.

The press service said that the parking area would open in the third quarter of 2014.

"Now passengers can use a parking zone near the terminal, which was opened recently, and parking areas near terminals B and F," reads the report.

The parking complex for 2,038 cars with three levels will be connected by a passage to terminal D and the Air Express station. The multi-modality of the complex will be supported thanks to bus and rail connections at the Air Express station.

"The active development of the airport's infrastructure and the increase in passenger flow via our airport require a new approach to the organization of parking zones. The construction of the parking zone near terminal D will give a chance to settle some important issues, in particular, it will allow the safe parking of vehicles of passengers and reduce congestions on the approach roads to the airport buildings," reads the report, citing Director general of Boryspil Airport, Anton Volov.

The central block of the parking area will consist of four floors and an underground part. It will have a hall with lifts (passenger and freight lifts), staircases for passengers, water closes, premises for servicing, and administrative premises for maintenance staff. Each floor will have places for storing baggage carts.

An information indicator panel will be placed at the entrance to each floor. An automated system will guide vehicles to the parking zone.

Each floor will have two parking zone gates at the entrance and at the exit. There will be phones, speaker phones and emergency call devices in the zone.

Volov said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine in March 2013 that the airport plans to build a parking area near terminal D over two years using its own resources.

The Boryspil airport is the main airport of the country. It provides 65% of passenger transportation by air in Ukraine. Over 50 airlines regularly fly on over 100 routes all over the world from the airport.

Ukrainian International Airlines is the basic carrier at the Boryspil airport.
