The leaders of Ukraine and the European Union have expressed full support for the European Parliament monitoring mission to Ukraine headed by former Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski and former President of the European Parliament Pat Cox.

This is stipulated in a joint statement of Ukraine and the EU on the results of the 16th EU-Ukraine Summit, which was hosted by Brussels on Monday.

The Ukrainian side was represented by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, and the European by European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.

"The leaders expressed full support for the European Parliament's monitoring mission to Ukraine headed by former Presidents Cox and Kwasniewski, including the need to address judicial cases of particular concern," reads the document.

Ukraine also expressed "its firm commitment to early implementation of the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights, as well as the recommendations by the Council of Europe related to detention conditions and medical assistance to persons in detention."
