Ukraine should adopt reliable electoral legislation, reads EU-Ukraine joint statement
The leaders of Ukraine and the European Union have declared that the OSCE/ODIHR's recommendations concerning the October 28, 2012 parliamentary elections in Ukraine must by fully implemented.
"The leaders noted the OSCE/ODIHR's final assessment of the October 28, 2012 parliamentary elections in Ukraine, acknowledging the need to fully implement its recommendations," reads a joint statement on the 16th EU-Ukraine Summit.
The Ukrainian side was represented by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, and the European by European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.
"They agreed on the importance of following up on electoral irregularities, including early steps to establish a reliable electoral legislation by giving consideration to an Election Code and clear rules for balanced media access for electoral competitors, in close consultation with the OSCE/ODIHR and the Council of Europe/Venice Commission, as well as addressing the inconclusive results in single mandate constituencies," reads the document.
