Kyiv, Brussels committed to signing Association Agreement, hope Ukraine shows progress in fulfilling its obligations by early May 2013
Ukraine and the European Union have reaffirmed their commitment to signing the Association Agreement and expressed hope that Kyiv would demonstrate progress in the fulfillment of its obligations by the beginning of May 2013.
This is stipulated in a joint statement of Ukraine and the EU on the results of the EU-Ukraine Summit that was hosted by Brussels on Monday.
"The leaders reaffirm their commitment to signing the already initialed Association Agreement, including the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area, as soon as decisive action and tangible progress is seen in the three areas outlined during the EU-Ukraine Summit in 2011, if possible, by the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius in November 2013," reads the document.
In connection with this, Ukraine confirmed its intention to follow the conclusions of the Council of the EU dated December 10, 2012.
"They agreed to focus on these issues as a priority. The signing may be accompanied by the opening of the provisional application of some parts of the agreement," reads the statement.
"The leaders hope Ukraine will achieve concrete progress by May 2013," reads the document.
The sides also took into account the European Parliament's resolution of December 13, 2012, and the Ukrainian parliament's statement dated February 22, 2013.
