MP's brother detained during protest against construction project in Kyiv, say media
Police have detained Pavlo Bryhynets, the brother of Batkivschyna parliamentary faction MP Oleksandr Bryhynets, in Kyiv's Dniprovsky district, according to Channel 5.
The television channel said that Bryhynets was detained during a civil protest at 6 Kosmichna Street.
The Ukrainska Pravda online publication said, referring to a posting on Facebook by journalist Natalia Sokolenko, that several more people were detained along with the MP's brother. The journalist wrote that the activists came to a meeting at 6 Kosmichna Street at the invitation of the constructor.
"The people came to a meeting with the constructor (Kyiv residents don't like the constructor's project) and the constructor did not come, then Kyiv residents started to pull down the fence surrounding the construction site," the journalist wrote.
"Then police officers came and arrested at least one person. The public activists went to help to release the detainee," Sokolenko said.
"Residents of the neighboring blocks of flats told me that the constructor called a meeting allegedly to show them all of the necessary permits for the construction project. However, the police were waiting for the activists instead of the constructor. Thus, another conflict arose instead of discussing a problem, as a result of which several activists were detained," Bryhynets said.
Witnesses and participants of the incident said that the police detained two or three people.
The activists have staged several protests against the construction.
