Reconstruction of blasted residential building in Kharkiv to end by January 26, says construction company

The restoration of a 16-storey residential building at 248-h Moskovsky Avenue in Kharkiv, which was affected by an explosion, will be completed by January 26, Director General of Stalkonstruktsia Construction Company Serhiy Yevel has said.

"As of today, the bearing structure of the building has been reinforced... On January 13 we will fully complete the work on the house from the 1st to the 8th floors, and from the 12th to the 16th floors. The 9th, 10th and 11th floors will be commissioned by January 26," Yevel said at a meeting with the residents of the house.

He also noted that the works are being held on schedule: elevators and elevator shafts have been already restored.

Kharkiv Mayor Hennadiy Kernes in turn said that the residents of the affected buildings should not be charged for housing and utilities for January.

On December 16, an explosion and fire occurred at a 16-storey residential building in Kharkiv, which killed four people (including an 11-month-old child), eight were hospitalized.

The blast destroyed separating walls, damaged ceilings and floors between the ninth, tenth and eleventh floors, and the facade of the building was also damaged. Fire destroyed four walls.
