EU, US ambassadors hope for fair, quick vote calculation in Ukraine

U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine John Tefft and Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski have expressed hopes that the vote counting process at the parliamentary elections in Ukraine will be quick and transparent.
They said this at a working meeting with Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine (CEC) Volodymyr Shapoval, according to the press service of the CEC.
"We really hope that the vote counting process and problems related to it will be solved with due respect to the expression of the will of the voters. First of all, they have to be sure that the count was conducted properly. And we, in turn, would like to be sure that a newly elected parliament will be legitimate," Tombinski said.
Tefft, in turn, supported his colleague and said the United States share the concerns expressed in statements and reports of international organizations regarding the parliamentary elections in Ukraine.
"However, we hope that the vote counting process will be finished as soon as possible. It is important to reflect in full the expression of the will of citizens," he said.
Shapoval briefed the ambassadors on the situation with the vote counting in single-seat constituencies, and noted that "the CEC did everything possible within the legislation to speed up the vote counting in majority constituencies."
