Azarov warns against speculations about some international observers' critical statements

Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said that the Ukrainian authorities are ready to eliminate all mistakes in the election procedure pointed out by international observers, and warned against speculation over some observers' critical statements.

"We are grateful to the international observation missions for their assistance in the development of democracy in Ukraine. We are ready to eliminate the mistakes pointed out by observers," he said while opening a meeting of the Ukrainian government in Kyiv on Wednesday.

"At the same time, I would like to warn against speculation about critical statements that were made by various observers and which some political forces are trying to use to discredit the Ukrainian people's vote," he said.

The premier said that millions of Ukrainians saw with their own eyes that the elections were fair and some politicians' intention to discredit the elections were connected only with the fact that the Regions Party "confidently won a difficult and open election battle."

"Careless critics of Ukrainian democracy want to cast doubt on the choice of millions of our citizens. But all these millions of people saw the truth with their own eyes – the elections were fair. Several dozen and even hundreds meticulously uncovered violations do not disprove this fact," Azarov said.

He added that the Regions Party had won the parliamentary elections in compliance with the Ukrainian legislation.
