Azarov: Government did everything possible to hold democratic parliamentary elections

The government has created all of the necessary material and technical conditions for the holding of free and democratic parliamentary elections in Ukraine, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said.

"I want to say that the government has created on time all of the necessary material and technical conditions for the holding of free and democratic elections... We did our best to ensure that the elections in our country were held as correctly and transparently as possible, with no obstacles to any political parties," he said while opening a government meeting on Wednesday.

Azarov said that there should be no obstacles to pre-election campaigning by political parties, and that law enforcement agencies should respond quickly to any violations in this connection.

He also demanded that local authorities promote the work of international observers who will be present on the day of voting in the parliamentary elections.

"Even a hint of refusal to cooperate and delays in the consideration of issues will be considered by the government as an emergency situation created through your own fault," Azarov said, while addressing the heads of local administrations.

The parliamentary elections in Ukraine are scheduled for October 28.
