Foreign Ministry: EU-Ukraine summit to be held after new parliament starts working

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has said that the EU-Ukraine summit will be held after major government institutions are formed in Ukraine after the parliamentary elections.

"The summit should be an annual event, and the final date of its holding, in accordance with prior agreements reached with our European partners, will be determined on when the formation of government institutions in Ukraine is completed following the parliamentary elections," the director of the ministry's information policy department, Oleh Voloshyn, said at a briefing on Tuesday.

He noted that the EU had a logical and understandable desire to hold the summit when a new parliament, parliamentary majority and a new government are formed in Ukraine.

"After all, the summit is not just a meeting between the Ukrainian president and representatives of the EU leadership. It is also the dialog at the level of all institutions. The final date of the summit has not been determined yet," Voloshyn said.
