Brussels sets forth conditions for holding Ukraine-EU Summit, says ambassador

The holding of the Ukraine-EU Summit will depend on a number of conditions, particularly on the assessment of the upcoming parliamentary elections and the situation with politically motivated justice, Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski has said.
"Today it's too early to speak about the exact date of the EU-Ukraine Summit, as all attention is focused on the upcoming elections in Ukraine," the ambassador said at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday.
According to him, the EU has set several conditions for Kyiv to meet before scheduling the summit. In particular, the conditions are related to holding of the parliamentary elections properly, tackling the situation with politically motivated justice in the country, as well as the promotion of the reform of the court system.
Tombinski also expressed hope that the summit would be held soon, as there is not much time until the end of the year.
"No decision on the cancellation of the summit or holding it has been taken yet… If the Ukrainian side makes positive signals, the EU will have enough political will to hold the summit soon," he said.
The parliamentary elections in Ukraine will be held on October 28, 2012.
