CEC head: 'Results of draw could be quite unfair, but they were completely legitimate'

Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Volodymyr Shapoval has said that the results of the draw preceding the formation of district election commissions in Ukraine could have been unfair for some participants in the electoral process.

"Perhaps the results of the draw were not quite fair for certain participants in the elections, but the draw itself was conducted in full compliance with the law," he said at a meeting with representatives of the ENEMO observation mission on Monday, when asked about the mechanism of the formation of district and precinct election commissions, including the process of the draw that preceded it.

According to the CEC's media liaisons department, Shapoval also noted that the adoption last year of a new law on parliamentary elections in Ukraine was a compromise decision by the various political parties represented in parliament.

Shapoval also said he hoped the guests gained positive impressions from the parliamentary elections in Ukraine, which are scheduled for October 28.
