Spain ready to sign agreement on joint Ukraine-EU airspace if Gibraltar airport excluded from it

Spain is ready to sign an agreement on a joint aviation space between Ukraine and the European Union when disputable issues are resolved, in particular, the airport in Gibraltar, which is controversial in relations with the UK, is excluded from it, Spanish Ambassador to Ukraine Gerardo Angel Bugallo Ottone has said.

"We offer the solution of this issue in a very real way... This is a problem between the two countries and we propose making an additional provision when signing the treaty to exclude this airport [in Gibraltar] from the document. And we are ready even tomorrow to sign this agreement if there is such a point in it," the ambassador said at a press conference in Kyiv.

He also noted that perhaps this problem will be solved with the UK's withdrawal from the European Union.

"Perhaps this issue will be resolved as a result of Brexit, when Britain withdraws from the EU, it will automatically leave this treaty, and there won't be this issue," he said.

According to him, this problem concerns not only Ukraine, but, for example, Brazil, but for Spain the issue with the status of the airport in Gibraltar is fundamental.
