Ukraine to increase gas pumping from underground inventories to 100 mcm a day

Ukraine due to stronger frosts is increasing pumping of gas from its underground storage facilities by 1.7-2 times compared to first days of January, to 100 million cubic meters (mcm) a day, Spokesman for pubic joint-stock company Ukrtransgaz Maskym Beliavsky has said.

"Gas pumping from storage facilities has been increased. The projected daily volume is 100 mcm," he wrote on his Facebook page.

Beliavsky said that this daily volume is 83% of the existing capacity of the underground storage facilities and it is enough to cover the needs of consumers. Ukraine implements the orders for gas transit using the Ukrainian gas transport system.

On January 1, 2017 Ukraine pumped 43.32 mcm of gas from its underground storage facilities, 48.37 mcm on January 2, 49.52 mcm on January 3 and 60.7 mcm on January 4. Average daily imports of gas on January 1 through January 4 were 48.1 mcm and domestic production – 56.6 mcm.

As early morning on January 5 11.791 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas was in Ukraine's underground storage facilities. It is enough to pump around 118 mcm of gas every day from the facilities.
