Delay adopting financial sector reform bills hinders resumption of crediting

Delay with adoption of bills required for the financial sector reform hinders the resumption of crediting, Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Valeriya Gontareva has said.

"In the past week we had an important bill that was not passed. The banking system was waiting for it for over one year – the bill on protection of creditors. Banking society does not understand how it is possible to resume crediting if the creditors' rights are not protected," she said at a meeting of the NBU Council in Kyiv on Thursday.

In addition, she urged the NBU Council and the parliamentary committee for financial policy and bank operations to help to implement the approved bill on financial restructuring as quickly as possible.

"We must implement this bill, as it is important for financial restructuring which the banking sector is waiting for," she said.
