Loss of operating Ukrainian banks totals UAH 11.6 bln as of Oct 1

The loss of operating banks in Ukraine in January through September 2016 totaled UAH 11.6 billion, which is 77.3% down year-over-year, the regulator has reported on its website.

The NBU explained that the loss fell thanks to the decline in payments to reserves for active transactions by 58.6% to UAH 37.5 billion. The central bank said that payments to reserves remain the important factor influencing the loss of the entire system.

Five banks with foreign capital in the top 20 largest banks saw the loss of UAH 16.4 billion. In addition, 30 banks saw loss of UAH 4 billion. Some 65 banks saw profit of UAH 8.8 billion since early 2016.

Some 32 banks saw loss of UAH 6.5 billion in September and 68 banks – profit of UAH 1.5 billion.

Net interest income totaled UAH 32.7 billion as of October 1, 2016, and this is UAH 5.5 billion (14.3% less year-over-year. The NBU said that interest income fell along with the decline in the credit portfolios of banks and growth of interest expenses.

Net commission income amounted to UAH 18.2 billion, and this was 12.8% or UAH 2 billion up year-over-year.

Revenue of banks in January-September 2016 fell by 4.4%, to UAH 140.1 billion and expenses – by 23.2%, to UAH 151.8 billion.
