Poroshenko plans to raise funds from EU to repair Odesa-Reni road

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko plans to attract funds from the EU for the repair of the Odesa-Reni highway.
"As you know, I had consultations with the presidents of Romania and Bulgaria. We've agreed to set up an ad hoc group for access to European Union funds, build a bridge, and this would be our key position on transit of Ukrainian goods and passengers," Poroshenko told reporters when examining the results of Odesa-Reni highway repairs.
The head of state noted the road has not been repaired for over 35 years and the uniting of efforts of the government and local authorities allowed getting things moving. And this is only the first step in expanding the volume of road repairs in the country.
Poroshenko also noted the need to accelerate conducting tenders for road construction, as well as increase the volume of tenders to repair the Odesa-Reni road and other roads in Ukraine. In his opinion, this will allow involving reliable and reputable contractors in the tenders.
"The road construction program is the strategic policy of the Ukrainian state," Poroshenko said, adding that UAH 30 million is foreseen for road repairs in the road fund in 2017.
