Ukrenergo: Coal accumulation target for TTPs not meet by 340,000 tonnes

The coal accumulation target approved by Ukraine's Energy and Coal Industry Ministry for electricity generating companies of thermal power plants (TPPs) today has not been met by 340,000 tonnes, Deputy Director for Operations of Ukrenergo Vitaliy Zaichenko has said at a roundtable in Kyiv.

He said that the lag for the anthracite group is 160,000 tonnes and gas group – 180,000 tonnes.

He said that according to the target, as of November 1, 2016 coal stocks at TPPs are to be 2.2 million tonnes, while today the stocks are 1.286 million tonnes, including 566,000 tonnes of anthracite and 720,000 tonnes of gas coal.

Zaichenko said that soon repair of several reactors of nuclear power plants (NPPs) will be finished and this would help to accelerate coal accumulation at TPPs.

Ukrenergo predicts that a surplus of electricity generated by Ukrainian power grid would be seen in February and some restrictions on generation by NPPs could be imposed.

Zaichenko said that Ukrenergo has several scenarios for passing winter depending on temperatures.

He said that it would be impossible to connect gas oil-consuming units of Vuhlehirska TPP to the power grid due damage of power lines.
