Government to send EIB-provided EUR 200 mln for Donbas reconstruction

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has created conditions for the launch of a EUR 200 million program funded by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and aimed at overcoming the consequences of the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

"At present, the path is open for the launch of the joint project with the European Investment Bank under the emergency crediting program for the restoration in Ukraine aimed at overcoming the consequences of the conflict in eastern Ukraine. A total of 69 projects are to be carried out by the government," the press service of the Regional Development Ministry of Ukraine reported on Thursday.

According to the ministry's report, the government assumes the obligation to repay the loan. The total cost of the planned projects is EUR 200 million.

Vice Prime Minister - Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Hennadiy Zubko said that the Cabinet has adjusted the number of projects and the order of their funding taking into account inflation and recalculation of the cost of works and materials.

"The project will cover Kyiv-controlled areas of Donbas, as well as Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia regions which are experiencing the greatest pressure on the infrastructure due to the influx of internally displaced persons. The project funds will be used for repairs and raising energy efficiency of the infrastructure used in the resettlement of internally displaced persons, the reconstruction of electricity, heat and water supply systems, restoration of roads and railways, in particular bridges," the Ministry's press service quoted Zubko as saying.
