Poroshenko insists Rada should decide on list and way of state enterprises privatization

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has insisted that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine should decide on the list and method of privatization of state enterprises.
The presidential press service reported Poroshenko said this, when opening the discussion of privatization at the 16th meeting of the National Reforms Council.
"I've stressed and will stress once more that the state's having a large number of state-owned enterprises is a factor that increases the risk of corruption, the factor where the state has never been an effective owner. I emphasize that the state should not be engaged in business. The state should collect taxes and effectively manage the budget, providing the most efficient use of taxpayers' money," Poroshenko said.
In his opinion, it is necessary to reduce the number of public companies as most of about 1,800 operating state enterprises due to inefficient management only bring losses to the state.
"They are deprived of the possibility of obtaining investment, loans, deprived of the possibility of upgrading fixed assets, which means that they are uncompetitive," reads the report.
