Cabinet sends draft amendments to 17 laws on energy sector reform to parliament

Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers has sent the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, drat amendments to 17 laws as part of reform in the energy sector, Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn said at a meeting with representatives of the European Business Association and the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine on Tuesday.

"The ministry has processed many documents, prepared draft amendments to 17 laws of Ukraine. Corresponding draft laws have been tabled in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine," he said.

In his words, the package of the draft laws includes bills whose adoption is needed to implement a new law on the natural gas market.

"Should such bills not be passed, unfair market operators will be able to use such loopholes in the law," he added.

As was reported, government-prepared draft bill No. 3325 was registered in parliament on October 15 to amend some legal acts securing conditions for the operation of the natural gas market. The wording of the bill hasn't been posted on the parliament's website yet.
