Ukraine cuts coal production by 50.8% in seven months

Ukrainian coal mining enterprises in January-July 2015 decreased coal production, according to live data, by 50.8% compared to the same period in 2014, to 22.807 million tonnes.

A source in the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry told Interfax-Ukraine that coking coal output in the seven months fell by 62.3%, to 4.688 million tonnes, steam coal by 46.5%, to 18.119 million tonnes.

Coal mining enterprises managed by the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry in January-July 2015 decreased production by 71.3%, to 4.024 million tonnes, in particular coking coal production decreased by 67.2%, to 1.198 million tonnes, steam coal by 72.7%, to 2.827 million tonnes.

Mines in Donetsk region for the seven months 2015 produced 8.015 million tonnes of coal (a 60.3% fall compared to January-July 2014), Luhansk region 2.320 million tonnes (an 83.4% fall), Dnipropetrovsk region 11.083 million tonnes (a 0.6% rise), Lviv region 1.234 million tonnes (a 20.7% rise), and Volyn region 154,300 tonnes (a 0.7% fall).
