Poroshenko sings bill into law on exempting ATO personnel from military tax

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed into law a bill on amendments to the Tax Code of Ukraine on exempting Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) personnel from the military tax.

Bill No.2980 was returned to the Verkhovna Rada with the presidential signature on July 7.

The bill was passed on June 18 with 277 deputies voting in favor.

The law exempts ATO personnel from paying the 1.5% income military tax, according to leader of the Radical Party Oleh Liashko.

The law stipulates that exemption from the military tax has been introduced for the duration of the operation. Those eligible for exemption "for a period of direct involvement" include law enforcement officials, Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel, National Guard personnel, Ukrainian Security Service agents, external intelligence service agents, State Border Guard Service personnel, Interior Ministry officials, State Protection Department officials, and State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection officials.

The procedures which will be used to confirm whether individuals are eligible for exemption will be determined by the Ukrainian government.
