Russian gas transit through Slovakia remains 25% below normal – Slovak PM

The volume of Russian natural gas transiting Slovakia to the rest of the European Union remains 25% below its normal level, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said at a joint press conference with Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk in Kyiv on Friday.

"I do not want to comment on the cause, but I want to say objectively that gas deliveries to the Slovak Republic have fallen 25% and that situation remains stable," he said.

"I have already stressed that the Ukrainian prime minister and I are interested in having our countries remain transit countries and receiving money for that," Fico said.

Beginning in September 2014, Gazprom responded to the launch of full-scale reverse gas shipments to Ukraine by reducing the amount of gas it delivers to the EU via that transit corridor to the minimum contractual level.
