Cargo terminal at Kharkiv airport to open in October, says CEO
Kharkiv International Airport is planning to reopen a cargo terminal after it underwent renovation in October this year, airport director general Volodymyr Vasylchenko has said.
"It will be a modern cargo terminal, which will serve aviation and automotive goods – such a multimodal warehouse," Vasylchenko told reporters.
According to him, the terminal will be equipped to store and handle dangerous goods. It will also have a refrigerator for frozen goods.
Vasylchenko said that now it is difficult to forecast the volume of cargo handling, as the airport has not provided this service before.
"An international airport should have a cargo terminal - this is a set of services [offered by] any international airport, and such services are always in demand," he said.
According to him, the airport will start providing the service of "cargo on board the aircraft" as soon as the cargo terminal is opened. He did not forecast the launch of flights by cargo airplanes.
"I think it is too early to talk about this," the airport CEO said.
The terminal area will be 1,500 square meters. It will be located in a building on the territory of the airport, which from the 1970s was used as a cargo terminal, but which halted operations in the 1990s.
The cost of the terminal reconstruction is about UAH 10-12 million.
