Passenger transportation in Ukraine 0.8% down in Q1
Ukrainian transport companies saw a 0.8% decline in passenger transportation in January-March 2013 year-over-year, to 1.6 billion people, the State Statistics Service has reported.
Passenger turnover was down by 3.5%, to 27.7 billion passenger-kilometers.
Over the period, 99.1 million passengers traveled by rail (taking into account transportation by city electric train), which was 0.2% up year-over-year.
The number of passengers serviced by Prydniprovska railways was up by 1.5%. Odesa Railways increased the number of passengers serviced by 0.3%, while Pivdenno-Zakhidna Railways saw passenger transportation fall by 1.7%, and Lviv Railways by 0.1%, and Pivdenna Railways saw a rise by 0.8% and Donetsk Railways by 0.5%.
In January-March 2013, 800 million passengers traveled by road, including those serviced by private entrepreneurs, and this was 0.4% down on January-March 2012. Passenger transportation by private entrepreneurs alone fell by 5.7%.
Passenger transportation by sea in January-March 2013 rose by 7.7% year-over-year. Sevastopol-based enterprises accounted for 89.2% of overall voyages by sea and increased transportation by 3.7%.
Sea voyages abroad soared by 49.9% from January-March 2012. Crimean companies, which accounted for 98.1% of all voyages abroad, boosted passenger transportation by 51.2%.
Airlines flew 1.1 million passengers in the period under review, which was 19.7% down year-over-year.
Municipal electric transport serviced 698 million passengers in January-March 2013, which was 1.4% down year-over-year.
