Ukraine should enter top 100 countries in World Bank's Doing Business rating, says Yanukovych
Ukraine should work on the deregulation and simplification of issuing permits to rank among the top 100 countries in the Doing Business rating of the World Bank, Ukraine President Viktor Yanukovych has said.
"Last year, Ukraine improved its position by 15 points, ranking it 137th in the World Bank's Doing Business rating, but I'm convinced we could work better. There is such a task," he said at a meeting of the Committee for Economic Reforms in Kyiv on Thursday.
The president stressed that Ukraine needs to simplify licensing procedures in construction and introduce the European model of monitoring food safety and quality.
"The electronic registration of business via the Internet should become convenient and cost-friendly, and individual entrepreneurs should finally be eligible for the application principle," the president said.
He also said that Ukraine needs to focus on the work of controlling bodies.
According to the president, the number of regulatory bodies in Ukraine should be reduced, as well as checks on businesses where they are not necessary.
"Entrepreneurs should really notice a relaxation of pressure from the state," Yanukovych said, adding that the number of scheduled checks and inspections should also be cut.
